We all like to decorate and do home improvements to make us more comfortable in our own Terravita Scottsdale home. But when it comes time to sell, not everyone might agree with our personal touches and might even consider some of them weird. Several real estate agents got together and put together a list of items that could be a turn-off for buyers

Urinals

Urinals might be great for a man cave in your Terravita Scottsdale home, but not everyone will appreciate them. At least you have a 50-50 chance of appealing to the potential home buyers. While buyers stand there, it’s not like they’re offended but look at urinals as more of a useless amenity.

Historical Decor

While this is usually not a problem in the Terravita Scottsdale community, many people who have older homes like to return the inside to a 19th-century decor or at least an old west theme. That might include a soaking tub in the kitchen and a wood-burning stove. This could work for and against you. It could work for you if you advertise the home as “historically authentic” but then again, it could limit the number of potential buyers. It’s best, though, to let purchasers know what they will be seeing so at least they’re not surprised.

Sports Themed Rooms

Let’s face it, if you’re into sports, you probably have a favorite team. But when going to sell your Terravita Scottsdale home, you might not want a potential home buyer to know that you’re a die-hard fan of a certain team, especially if that buyer roots for rival team.

Permanent Family Installations

While you might appreciate handprints of loved ones permanently plastered into your walls, the next owner of your Terravita Scottsdale home will probably remove the display. So, it’s best to remove any permanent fixtures of family or friends before you sell. A potential buyer might also walk away since they might not want to be inconvenienced in removing the installation.

Garage Conversions

Converting your garage into maybe a bedroom or home office is a turn off for most buyers. A garage is an attractive feature of a home and buyers don’t want one that has been altered.

Pinterest Rooms

Remodeling or decorating a room with Pinterest tutorials is a no-no unless you know what you’re doing and pull off the project tastefully. Definitely consult with a professional before you redecorate walls and floors.

Built-in Aquariums

No doubt, built-in aquariums can be attractive in a home, but not everyone wants them or cares for the upkeep. If it’s custom made for the area in your home, this could be a negative when it comes time to sell unless a fish lover ends up buying your home.

There’s a lot to think about when selling your home. The goal is to make your Terravita home as attractive as possible.
