Today, September 23rd, is the first day of fall.  You may not want to think about it, but this means the holidays are right around the corner.  So, it’s a good time to think about fixing up your house before hosting a party or having guests visit.
Seem overwhelming?  It doesn’t have to be. says the first step is to “look around and take an inventory of what needs to be done.”

If you’re planning on having company stay with you, a guest bedroom and bathroom might be a good place to start or even the guest house. Projects to consider:  painting, updating flooring and baseboards or even something simple like adding a ceiling fan with a light in the guest bedroom.  Adding a picture or a wall hanging and replacing window blinds and curtains also can make a room look updated.  A new sink faucet and shower head can be a great addition for the bathroom.  If you want to go all out, guests, I’m sure, would appreciate a new toilet, sink, and even new medicine cabinets or mirrors.

Definitely give some thought to the kitchen since you’ll be spending a lot of time there with your guests.  Again, a fresh coat of paint is always nice but even better would be new cabinets or even just replacing the pulls and knobs.  Other updates that could give the kitchen a great new look would be a new sink, faucet, or even the replacement of fluorescent lights with something more trendy.
The website says if you really want to go all out, you might want to have your home’s water heater properly flushed.  Doing so keeps the tank clean and improves efficiency.  Also, if you replace the hose bibs, the temperature changes won’t cause issues with the outside water line.
