Go Green in Your Bathroom

No, I’m not talking about paint or being biodegradable friendly.  I’m talking about plants!  Plant lovers and interior designers are green with envy about this latest trend.  about.com says green bathrooms are making the rounds of websites and magazines, featuring hanging plants along with counter ones.  No remodeling required.  However, not just any plant will do.  about.com gives some options.

ALOE VERA

It’s a great medicinal plant to have around.  The long, green leaves contain aloe gel and a residue called latex.  The gel is the part of the plant used most often for all kinds of skin issues including burns, scratches, itches, insect bites, etc.  The plant loves warm and bright spaces.

AZALEA

Colorful and fragrant, an azalea plant will perk up any bathroom.  Potted azaleas are fairly ease to care for but do require some effort.  The plants grow in partial shade but still need some sunlight.  So it’s best to put these in a bathroom with some natural light.

SPIDER PLANT

Also, known as chlorophytum, spider plants are easy to careful and thrive in humid environment like bathrooms.  You can put them in a decorative pot on the counter or hang from a ceiling.

CHINESE EVERGREEN

Again, this plant is perfect for humid, warm environments like the bathroom.  about.com says the darker the leaf, the less sun they need.  Plant experts say a  potted Chinese evergreen will spruce up any bathroom.

GARDENIA

While it’s a popular plant both indoors and outdoors, gardenias also love humid climates.  But like azaleas, they need natural sunlight.

In addition to decor, indoor plants, such as these, are great for keeping your air fresh and clean.  Make sure to choose the right type of plant for the kind of light you have — artificial or natural.
