We’re coming up on one of the two best times of the year to buy a home. It may still seem like summer, but if you’re are thinking of putting your house on the market, if you list in December, chances are, you’ll have a lot of offers.
Actually, there are two days of the year where it’s a great time to make an offer on a home. Easter and Christmas Day. Easter Day and just spring in general is a great time to buy, especially if you live in a cold climate. When the snow melts and the flowers start blooming, looking for a home has a certain appeal. Easter falls sometime between March 22 and April 25. But even here in Arizona, there’s something about spring that seems to attract buyers.
about.com says when spring hits, “offers fly through FAXes and emails and cell phones ring constantly. Everybody wants a deal, and everybody wants to sell.”
The website says the best day of the year to buy a home is Christmas Day. Usually, nobody looks at homes on Christmas Day. But buying on that day is a smart move according to about.com It’s best to scout out the homes you’re interested in a few days before Christmas so you’ll be better positioned.
So why is Christmas Day so attractive? about.com says, “people are in good moods, celebrating, opening presents, enjoying family. People are more inclined to be generous, even if it means coming down on the price.” Few buyers are out looking at homes during Christmas week, so the chance of multiple offers or any competition whatsoever is very low. Home prices are also at a 12-month low in December.
If a person has their home on the market over Christmas, that person is definitely serious about negotiating and selling that home.
